Haiti, one of the poorest countries in North America, was struck by a devastating earthquake on January 12, 2010. Tens of thousands Haitians were killed in the disaster, millions have been affected. Although international aid has started arriving, the situation remains grave – survivors are unable to receive medical assistance, there is a lack of food and water and absence of physical resources and finances to deal with the catastrophic consequences of the earthquake.
